Neck and Back Pain Treatment
Few people are lucky enough not to experience back and/or neck pain at some point in their life. It may be specific injury or related to wear and tear. The problem can be short lived or can go on for a very long period of time. Often, even when the pain occurs suddenly it is due to underlying problems that may have been developing over years. It has become increasingly apparent over the past few years just how important it is that the spine remains flexible.
For many reasons parts of the spine can become stiff (which can be painful in its own right). When this happens adjacent levels have to move excessively. This extra burden of movement can lead to excess wear, disc prolapse, inflammation and secondary muscle spasm.
Following a thorough assessment to find out what the problem is we can start to help the situation. Treatments can include manual therapy such as massage and manipulation, mobilisation, electrotherapy, taping and acupuncture. You will be advised on an exercise programme to further help your recovery away from the clinic. You will also receive advice on posture and which activities to do or avoid related to your condition.
The right advice can help prevent recurrence. It is important to note that you should be wary of taking advice from a non-professional. Friends and family can mean well, but what is correct for one type of spinal problem may be completely wrong for another (even if symptoms would appear to be the same).
